Managing and growing a law firm is not taught in any university or post-graduate program. If you need assistance with any of the following issues, you’ve come to the right place:
- Developing systems to manage your law firm effectively
- Finding ways to increase revenue
- Financial management and reporting
- Hiring new associates, paralegal support, and other key team members
- Increasing fees and implementing a value-based billing model
- and many more business issues
Since 2008 I have worked with law firms of all sizes. Areas of focus have included: Practice Management, Business Strategy, Productivity Improvement, Revenue Growth and Succession Planning.
Also, I have guided dozens of law firms through the process of acquiring and integrating a practice group into their firm and the sale of one law firm to another.
I work with attorneys in law firms of various sizes on every business aspect of law firm strategy, management, and revenue growth:
Individual Attorney Mentoring
This consulting program is designed for ultimate flexibility. You have unlimited access to me for help growing your firm. You initiate all interaction and can work with me as your business mentor. You can ask me questions about anything, and I’m available to you during regular business hours.
We can discuss strategic issues like:
- How to set fees to make certain the firm continues to be profitable
- How to balance your client portfolio to ensure maximum cash flow
- When to hire an associate, paralegal or both
- Developing an exit strategy for you when you are ready to retire
We also discuss tactical issues such as:
- What you say when onboarding a new client
- How to structure your client relationship so you get paid before the work is complete
- Ways to keep the workflow moving while you focus on the strategic issues
- Language you can use in client conversations to convey urgency and encourage compliance
The sole practitioner consulting program is six months of unlimited access to me by e-mail, phone, video conference, etc. I help people strategically (how to set fees, deciding on moving into or out of a new practice area, how and when to increase staff, etc.), and tactically (what to say at the meeting tomorrow, critiquing engagement agreements, overcoming objections, etc.).
The fee is $4,500, which distinguishes those who are serious about improving the business aspects of their law firm, and is easily recouped through increased business and higher fees.
There are over 300 “graduates,” and “post-graduates” (those who signed up for an additional term). Admission is limited. If there are no openings there is a “first come, first served” waiting list.
Together we reach a mutual decision as to whether the program is right for you. If it is, you begin with studying your current situation, expectations, and fundamental value propositions. You then establish goals.
Some people call daily, some weekly, some monthly. The frequency and style are up to you. I return all phone calls and email within agreed-upon times.
The fee is required to begin the process or to claim a place on the waiting list. The fee is non-refundable, no exceptions.
The Only Guy I Trust
I can tell you that I know a lot of people in the legal consulting world who help lawyers and Dave Lorenzo is the only guy in this business that I trust.
I personally know Dave and while I’ve read a lot of other materials from people who do this, he is my go-to guy for lawyers who are looking to build a practice – better a practice – possibly get out of their practice and do something else. He is the guy who knows how to help lawyers.
My name is Brian Tannebaum and I’m in my 21st year of practicing law. I do state and federal criminal defense, and I represent lawyers before the Florida Bar.
Make More Money and Enjoy It
Thank you for consistently challenging me to do things I would never have done on my own to improve my law business.
Yes, I said law ‘business’, not law ‘practice.’
I own and operate a law firm and for years I managed a law practice. That means 99% of my focus was on being a good lawyer and putting systems in place to win cases. My assumption was that being a great lawyer will translate into people knocking down the door to be your client. Of course, that is simply not true. Being a good lawyer isn’t the end, it is the beginning.
You made me realize there are many good lawyers, and many good lawyers who do the type of law I do. You challenged me to ask the question, ‘why would a client search for me and ask me to help?’ In short, you made me take steps to think like a businessman, in addition to being a good lawyer.
From the outset of our relationship, I never had plans to grow my law practice and I never wanted a substantial increase in clients. However, focusing more effort on attracting clients has resulted in more people asking me to help them on a more consistent basis. This allows me to be much more selective in who I help and what I help them with. The end result, I do the same amount of work as I did before, I help people more, I make more money helping people and I enjoy what I do more. Thank you.”
Helped Me Change Everything
Dave has helped me think about what I’m doing, perhaps not as well, and the things I can do to grow my business. Today and the rest of my life, using this course and materials I’m getting from here, is about growing my business. I’m very excited. I just see myself differently.
Because I’ve been practicing law over 25 years. I know I don’t look it, but I have been. And I have a lot of clients, many have been with me for years, sometimes decades, who come to me for everything. And I should be able to make some good use of those relationships and build value and introduce new value to them.
My name is Mitch Rotbert. I’m the owner of Rotbert Business Law in Washington D.C.
We are a general counsel for hire. We represent businessmen and women, helping them to get what they deserve. They have needs and wants and we pursue them.
Let me take a big step back, because I don’t recall how I encountered Dave. I just started getting emails. I must have hit a button somewhere along the line. And I read them and I was intrigued, and I read them very carefully. And he was really singing to me about what I need in my business. And saying it that way may seem facile or simplistic, but it really is a big change. The first thing that he or one of his top level people sitting with him, his experienced people sitting with him today, said today, “Change the way.” It’s a category shift for me. And he really started talking about growing a business. I have been earning a living. There’s a real difference between earning a living and growing a business.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions people ask most often about this program:
Dave, after I sign-up, what happens if I get busy and can’t call you?
You may freeze your participation in the program one time for up to three months. This means if you land a big case or have to prepare for trial and you won’t be able to connect with me for three months, you simply send me an email and we stop everything until you are ready to continue.
We need to start-up again within 90 days from when you call a “freeze” but my experience is most people only need a month or two in order to get back to work with me.
If you don’t call, there is no freeze. That’s an important point. I cannot read your mind and you must let me know what is going on.
Can we meet in person?
That depends. Usually, I work with my clients via telephone or video conference. If both of our schedules permit, we may be able to meet in person. I work “on site” with law firms that require specific, focused attention. The investment for those engagements is significantly more.
Do your business development techniques work outside the United States?
Yes. I have clients in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Mexico. I focus on relationship-based business development. Relationships are important everywhere. Additionally, the time difference is never an issue. We work at mutually convenient hours and Skype is remarkable.
My practice is different. Will your business development techniques work for: litigators, family law attorneys, business attorneys, criminal defense attorneys, attorneys who focus on <insert specialty here>?
Yes. I’ve worked with attorneys in just about every practice area and in every specialty. I know you think your practice is different. It’s not. You’re different. You’re special. I will customize some things for you. But I’ve been around the block (28 years of building professional service businesses). I can help you if you let me.
Are there people who work with you and don’t get results?
Yes. Those people fall into two groups: 1). They don’t call me. or 2). They argue with me and want to keep doing things their own way.
If you don’t call I can’t help you. Makes sense, right? Some people make appointments with me each week and they keep up. This works well. It keeps you focused. Those people get great results.
If you fight me, I will fire you and keep your money.
I’m not going to ask you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. We customize this system for your talent. There is no cold calling. We don’t put your face on the side of a bus or on a billboard. We develop relationships. I’m an expert at this with a track record of success. Follow my suggestions and you will be successful.
Can I pay in installments?
I don’t like payment plans. I don’t want to think about money when I’m talking to you. That’s why I list the investment as a one time option. If you have special circumstances and you want to discuss them with me, I will listen and if we can agree on an arrangement that makes me comfortable, I will consider it.
What do you guarantee?
I guarantee you will receive the best possible advice for growing your law firm. I guarantee you will be treated by me with respect. I guarantee I will be available to you as needed during the term of our relationship.
I guarantee if you do nothing, you’ll continue to get the results you have now – or worse.
